OCT 24 (Medjugorje Today) - Fr. John Chisholm, an Irish priest who served as chaplain to the English speaking pilgrims for six years from 2000 onwards, died in Medjugorje on October 23.
Fr. Chisholm was held in high esteem by numerous pilgrims who confessed to him, and many were convinced that he had the gift of reading souls. He had connections at the top of the Vatican, along with a CV including three PhDs.
Fr. John Chisholm was also one of the two participants in an October 9th 1998 meeting with Medjugorje's local Bishop Ratko Peric of Mostar during which the Bishop stated that he did not believe in any apparition, be it Fatima, Lourdes, or Medjugorje, and that he wanted Medjugorje "abolished".
OCT 24 (Medjugorje Today) - When Medjugorje's third international pilgrimage for people with disabilities began today, all 1,300 participants got housing for free, provided by local citizens.
"Your coming to Medjugorje enriches this place and your hosts who unselfishly opened their homes and their hearts and provide free accommodation for all of you. It is not the first time that the inhabitants of the parish of Medjugorje provide free accommodation for the pilgrims, they did so earlier too" local mayor Ivo Jerkic said in his welcome, with a reference to the earliest days of the apparitions.
Until Sunday, the 1,300 accredited from the United States, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Poland, Ukraine and Latvia will participate in prayer, lectures and workshops.
OCT 19 (Medjugorje Today) - Mairead Peoples, a Medjugorje group leader from Ireland, has gathered 35 members of her family for a one week pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
"I bring pilgrims and I believe that Our Lady has a plan for each one of them and that she does something special for all pilgrims. I really love my family to come over here" she tells medjugorje.hr, the official parish website.
OCT 13 (Medjugorje Today) - Croatian parties won a landslide victory in the Medjugorje area during the elections for the parliament of Bosnia and Hercegovina, held on October 12.
The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ-BiH) took 60,75 % of the votes with Croatian Assembly (HKDU-HRAST) second at 16,68 %, and Croatian Democratic Union's sister party HDZ 1990 third at 12,81 %, local news portal Brotnjo Online informs. Votes were cast by 53 % of those entitled to, slightly below the overall level.
OCT 5 (Medjugorje Today) - With 287 words, the Virgin Mary's message given to visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo on October 2 is the longest message ever given to Mirjana during one of her apparitions on the second day of the month, the British blog Crown of Stars notes.
The long message also marks the current culmination of a trend, the average length of the messages given to Mirjana increasing every year since 2009. That year, there was an average of 85 words in Mirjana's messages. This number has since increased to 89 words in 2010, then to 144, 162, 204, and 212 words so far in 2014.
"What can be the reason for this development? Does Our Lady have a specific motive for wanting us to take in more of what she is saying and teaching? Does she consider our hearts are opening in a way so as to be able to receive more?" Crown of Stars writes.
"There is often a sense of urgency in the messages to Mirjana, urging us to action; to confess, to pray, to fast, to convert, to love, to allow God’s peace into our lives and so the world. Perhaps the extended messages can be viewed as an expression of this urgency, Our Lady’s desire to bring as many people to Jesus before the time she will begin – through Mirjana – to reveal her “secrets” to the world" Crown of Stars further notes.
OCT 6 (Medjugorje Today) - Visionary Vicka Ivankovic-Mijatovic comes in the hands of a university professor in a new book published on October 6. The author is professor Mario Vasilj, the Mostar University Dean of the Faculty of Science and Education.
Vicka explains why the apparitions in Medjugorje occur, and speaks in detail about the early days of the apparitions and her experiences with the Virgin Mary. The second part of the book contains interviews with Vicka's mother, Zlata Ivankovic, her brother Franjo, and the Medjugorje priest Fr. Stanko Dodig.
The third part of the book is devoted to prayer and meditations on the Stations of the Cross and the complete Rosary. Titled "Medjugorje - Our Lady's Apostles, Vicka Testifies", the book is so far only available in Croatian.
OCT 6 (Medjugorje Today) - The Croatian football team RNK Split arrived in Medjugorje on October 6, for training, recharging the spiritual batteries, and playing a test match on October 11.
Currently number 4 in the best Croatian league but with only one win in the five most recent games, the team has come to Medjugorje in search of a kickstart before two difficult games in late October, head coach Ivan Matic tells the Split-based newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija.
Traditionally associated with the working class in Split, RNK is the less popular of the city's two major football clubs, most people supporting Hajduk Split. The same is true of many people in Medjugorje.
OCT 4 (Medjugorje Today) - Seven months after filing a request for all of his wages to be cancelled, the inexplicably cured Medjugorje pilgrim Cristian Felice has been heard by the Italian social authorities who thereby recognize his healing.
38 years old Cristian Felice suffered from the incurable and deadly Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) for five years until September 26th 2013 when he climbed Apparition Hill in Medjugorje. In wheelchair with his lower limps paralyzed, Felice also used a respirator.
"I have to say it was a laborious process and I had absolutely no idea that all this would take months. It is paradoxical to note that it almost took more time to give up the benefits than to have them when my disease was in progress. Now, finally the process is finished and it is certified that I am not an ALS patient but a healthy person" Cristian Felice tells the regional online paper Qui Cosenza.
SEP 30 (Medjugorje Today) - The Virgin Mary will get a street name, and her apparitions in Medjugorje will be honored when the road passing by Apparition Hill and through the village of Bijakovici will be officially named Ulica Kraljica Mira ("Queen of Peace Street").
It is the first known future street name in Medjugorje, by a time when the municipality of Citluk has initiated naming of all the streets in Medjugorje where no streets have been named so far.
Local resident Laura Marcazzan Budimir tells that street signs are yet to appear on Queen of Peace Street, but assures it will indeed be the name.
SEP 29 (Medjugorje Today) - The recent US Open triumph of tennis player Marin Cilic, who was born and raised in Medjugorje, is being celebrated with a stamp issued by Croatian Post.

"Dear children, with motherly love I implore you, love one another. May there be in you hearts, as my Son desired from the very begining, love for the Heavenly Father and for your neighbour in the first place - above everything of this world. My dear children, do you not recognize the signs of the times? Do you not recognize that all of this that is around you, all that is happening, is because there is no love? Comprehend that salvation is in true values. Accept the might of the Heavenly Father, love Him and honour Him. Walk in the footsteps of my Son. You, my children, my dear apostles, you are always gathering around me anew, because you are thirsty. You thirst for peace, love and happiness. Drink out of my hands. My hands are offering to you my Son who is the spring of clear water. He will bring your faith back to life and purify your hearts, because my Son loves pure hearts and pure hearts love my Son. Only pure hearts are humble and have firm faith. I ask for such hearts of you, my children. My Son told me that I am the mother of the entire world. I ask of those of you who accept me as such to help me, with your life, prayer and sacrifice, for all of my children to accept me as a mother - so that I may lead them to the spring of the clear water. Thank you. My dear children, as your shepherds offer you the Body of my Son with their blessed hands, always in your hearts give thanks to my Son for the sacrifice and for the shepherds that He always gives you anew."
“Dear children! Also today I call you to also be like the stars, which by their light give light and beauty to others so they may rejoice. Little children, also you be the radiance, beauty, joy and peace – and especially prayer – for all those who are far from my love and the love of my Son Jesus. Little children, witness your faith and prayer in joy, in the joy of faith that is in your hearts; and pray for peace, which is a precious gift from God. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
“Dear children! Pray for my intentions, because Satan wants to destroy my plan which I have here and to steal your peace. Therefore, little children, pray, pray, pray that God can act through each of you. May your hearts be open to God’s will. I love you and bless you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
“Dear children! You are not aware of the graces that you are living at this time in which the Most High is giving you signs for you to open and convert. Return to God and to prayer, and may prayer begin to reign in your hearts, families and communities, so that the Holy Spirit may lead and inspire you to every day be more open to God’s will and to His plan for each of you. I am with you and with the saints and angels intercede for you. Thank you for having responded to my call.”
