INTERVIEWS WITH THE VISIONARIES
While hard to find and oftentimes available only in worn out, well-read copies, the local Franciscan priest Fr. Janko Bubalo’s interview book with visionary Vicka Ivankovic, A Thousand Encounters with the Blessed Virgin Mary in Medjugorje, is the classic in the field. Irish journalist Heather Parsons came close to both Vicka and her fellow visionary Marija Pavlovic, and both of Parsons’s books are well worth reading, too.
A bit of controversy has surrounded American lawyer Janice Connell whose second work, Queen of the Cosmos, was denounced by the visionaries whereas her first book, The Visions of the Children, enjoyed a better destiny and therefore is included here. The book has interviews with all six Medjugorje visionaries.

THE YEARBOOKS OF FR. RENÉ LAURENTIN
When historians are to write the complete history of the apparitions in Medjugorje, they will likely start out going over the yearbooks by the French priest and leading apparition expert Fr. René Laurentin. Published every year from 1985 until 1998 when Fr. Laurentin obeyed the Bishop of Mostar who wanted the publication to cease, the Medjugorje yearbooks chronicle the apparitions and the visionaries down exact days, year after year. Uncompromisingly fact-oriented in their entire approach to Medjugorje, the yearbooks’ value for history can hardly be over-estimated.

INVESTIGATION and DOCUMENTATION
A broad category spanning from accounts of the first medical and scientific investigations, over Fr. Michael O’Carroll’s presentation of official Church documents and a documentation tour-de-force of several areas compiled by Denis Nolan, to local priest Fr. Ljudevit Rupcic’s fact-oriented work in defense of Medjugorje. While not indispensable for accepting the apparitions and living the general message, these titles are recommended for those who would like to understand Medjugorje in the light of history, theology and science.
