Honduras gets replica of famous Cross
Complete with a white Cross on top, a replica of Cross Mountain in Medjugorje will come into being on a mount in Danli, Honduras. To reach 20 meters above the ground, the Cross will be more than twice as tall as the Cross in Medjugorje, and possible to see from all corners of the city.
February 7-9 will see the installation of an exact replica of the Cross from Cross Mountain, Medjugorje – in Danli, Honduras, 92 kilometers from the capital, Tegucigalpa.
Indeed, a whole mountain in Danli will be modeled after Cross Mountain, including the prayer devotion The Stations of the Cross that follows Jesus on the way to Calvary, the Honduran newspaper El Heraldo reports.
More than 4,000 people from various countries are expected for the youth festival that will coincide with the installation of the Cross replica. It will get to look exactly like the Cross in Medjugorje though, with a height of 20 meters, the Cross in Honduras will be taller than the one in Medjugorje (8,56 meters).
The Cross is a project of the Catholic Church in Honduras, with financial aid coming from Our Lady Queen of Peace University in Danli, named from the title the Virgin Mary is using for herself in her apparitions in Medjugorje.
Víctor Fernandez, the director of the university’s St. James Campus, tells El Heraldo that the Cross will be visible from all corners of Danli.
“It will be a blessing for the entire community” he says.
A replica of the Cross from Cross Mountain already exists in Malawi, and replicas of St. James’ Church in Medjugorje have also been built and are in use in other countries.
